Skaneateles Falls, N.Y.
Welch Allyn, a leading manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced that its Propaq™ LT monitor has been awarded Airworthiness Release (AWR) from the U.S. Army's Research, Development, and Engineering Command as reflected in AWR 1330, revision 2. The U.S. Army's Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) confirmed medical certification of the device, stating that it has proven safety compatibility with Department of Defense criteria and is approved for use aboard all U.S. Army fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
"We are honored that the U.S. Department of the Army has certified the Propaq LT monitor for use in flight. It is a compliment to Welch Allyn that the U.S. Army trusts our products to preserve and protect the lives of the Army's patients, including soldiers who have been wounded in battle," says Grant Gibson, group product director at Welch Allyn. "The Airworthiness Release attests to the durability, ease of use and reliability of our Propaq LT devices."
Weighing less than two pounds, the Propaq LT comes equipped with essential continuous monitoring capabilities in a compact design that makes it deployable to areas where technical complexity or cost made monitoring impossible in the past. The Propaq LT monitors heart rate and has three- or five-lead ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and respiration with an easy-to-use interface. It features a full-color LCD screen and can be operated in standalone mode or wirelessly networked to Welch Allyn's Acuity® Central Monitoring Station.
In 2004, the company's Propaq Encore® monitors were approved for all phases of flight aboard U.S. Air Force aircraft. The Welch Allyn PIC 50™ monitor / defibrillator earned an Airworthiness Release in 2006.
